Support DMRC
The Diabetes and Metabolism Research Center hosts special events throughout the year to bring the community together to fight diabetes and enhance overall health. These activities raise awareness on how dangerous diabetes is (it’s one of the top 10 causes of death), as well as its consequences, such as blindness, renal failure, heart attacks, strokes and lower-limb amputation. We believe diabetes can and will be cured. And we believe we are the team capable of discovering a cure. Discover how you can contribute to our groundbreaking research and unrivaled patient care — and learn about the difference you’re making. We at the DMRC rely on the generosity of donors to continue our research and deliver world-class care to our patients and families.
Everyone at the DMRC is inspired by the belief that a life free of diabetes is possible. Our sole mission is to prevent, treat and cure diabetes, and it comes at a high price. We can only continue to provide the greatest quality patient care, conduct cutting-edge research and, one day, make our hope of a cure a reality, thanks to the generosity of our donors and partners.
Upcoming Events
A critical goal for the DMRC is to develop a world-class Type 1 Diabetes Research Program that leads fundamental research and translates that research into clinical care leading the way to a cure right here in Central Ohio. We are searching for a lead scientist in Type 1 Diabetes and beta cell biology. This comprehensive bench-to-beside program will link to our outstanding clinical care and clinical trial program in type 1 Diabetes. At present, ~ 20% of patients seen in our Diabetes Multidisciplinary Center of Excellence have Type 1 Diabetes. Our clinical researchers have been part of or led, clinical trials using the newest technologies for patients with type 1 diabetes. A substantial gift to the Diabetes and Metabolism Research Center Fund can turn our goal into a reality. We are planning a dinner on August 13, 2024, if you or your family and friends are interested in supporting this important vision. Please contact Nargis Dzhuraeva, at nargis.dzhuraeva@osumc.edu if you would like an invitation.
The annual Islet Cell Invitational, which will take place on Monday, July 24, 2023, at Columbus Country Club. This year we are proud to announce Cameron Mitchell Restaurants as our presenting sponsor. Our goal is to raise money for The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s Diabetes & Metabolism Research Center and to ultimately fund the resources needed to bring human trials here to Ohio State for efforts already underway to test a functional cure for type 1 diabetes. The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center treats thousands of patients with diabetes and has one of the largest patient populations of individuals with type 1 diabetes. The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center has a number of exceptional programs specifically for type 1 diabetes, including an adolescent to adult transition program and a diabetes technology clinic. Ohio State is uniquely positioned to be at the forefront of cutting-edge technology to functionally cure type 1 diabetes and prevent the complications of this insidious disease.

The Diabetes Education and Research Update is a dinner program focused on highlights from the past year of innovative research and what’s in store for the future at the Diabetes and Metabolism Research Center (DMRC). In the past, the evening was be hosted by Angela An, a six-time Emmy Award-winning journalist and anchor of WBNS-10TV, and included a keynote presentation, fabulous food, special guests and a silent auction. The event will also provide a more detailed description of what The Ohio State University is doing in the ongoing fight against diabetes and obesity, both of which are epidemics in the central Ohio community, and our strategies to develop a world-class Type 1 Diabetes Research Program within the DMRC.
The next annual Dining for Diabetes Education and Research Update, will take place on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at the Ohio Union’s Archie Griffin Ballroom.
