Facilities at Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute

Dr. Hund in the lab with traineesThe Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute (DHLRI) at The Ohio State University supports a comprehensive cardiovascular basic and translational research environment, encompassing more than 225,000 square feet of research space across multiple buildings on the OSU Wexner Medical Center campus. Established over two decades ago, the Institute integrates fundamental discovery, advanced training, and clinical translation in heart and lung disease. DHLRI investigators study a wide range of cardiopulmonary and metabolic conditions and are supported by extensive shared instrumentation, including advanced imaging, genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, electrophysiology, and metabolic analysis platforms. Significant institutional investment has enabled state‑of‑the‑art capabilities that support NIH‑funded research and foster interdisciplinary collaboration.

DHLRI is closely integrated with The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, one of the nation’s leading academic medical centers, providing strong clinical, animal, and computational research infrastructure. Investigators benefit from access to nationally accredited animal care facilities, high‑performance computing resources, and a broad portfolio of specialized core facilities, including interventional cardiology, flow cytometry, metabolism, small animal imaging and surgery, biostatistics, microscopy, pathology, and human tissue biorepositories. Together, these resources create a robust, end‑to‑end research ecosystem that accelerates the translation of basic discoveries into clinically relevant advances in cardiovascular and pulmonary health.
