Accepted applicants
The information below explains the required actions applicants must take after being accepted to the MD program at The Ohio State University College of Medicine (OSUCOM). It follows the AAMC Application and Acceptance Protocols for Applicants and the Ohio State University College of Medicine’s expectations to help manage admissions fairly and efficiently.
Definition of terms
- Plan to enroll: By selecting “Plan to Enroll” in the Choose Your Medical School Tool (CYMST), this indicates intention only and is not a final, binding decision. If your first choice is The Ohio State University College of Medicine, you are required to indicate so via “Plan to Enroll.” You can remain in this status until “Commit to Enroll” becomes available or the established “Commit to Enroll” deadline. You may also be in “Plan to Enroll” status for OSUCOM and remain on waitlists at other institutions.
- Commit to Enroll: By selecting “Commit to Enroll,” you indicate that you have made a final decision and, at this point, you are expected to withdraw your acceptance(s) from all other schools. Selecting “Commit to Enroll” is a binding decision. If Ohio State is your first choice, we ask that you indicate this action as soon as possible and encourage you to submit this decision in advance of the published deadline. This confirms that you have made your final decision, you are ONLY holding an acceptance to The Ohio State University College of Medicine, and you have withdrawn all other applications, including waitlist positions.
Key deadlines and required actions for the MD program
- By April 15, 5:00 pm EST: Select 'Plan to Enroll' for OSUCOM in AMCAS CYMST if you wish to keep your spot. Applicants with multiple acceptances should narrow their acceptance offers to three. If you do not plan to attend an institution to which you have been accepted, you should notify those institutions of your withdrawal. If you plan to enroll at OSUCOM, we encourage to select “Plan to Enroll” by this time.
- On April 30: The “Commit to Enroll” option becomes available in the CYMST, allowing you to make your final decision about which school you will attend. At this point, you should be holding only one acceptance, meaning you must have formally withdrawn from all other schools where you were previously accepted by notifying them directly. The “Plan to Enroll” designation remains active and can still be used if you are not yet ready to make a final commitment. While in the “Plan to Enroll” status, you may continue to remain on waitlists at other institutions, as long as you are holding just one acceptance.
- By July 1, 5:00 pm EST: Deadline to select 'Commit to Enroll' in the CYMST for OSUCOM and:
- Withdraw from all other schools, including waitlists by contacting the institutions directly.
- Accept your officer of admission though Graduate and Professional Admissions at Ohio State and pay the $25 acceptance fee.
- Finish all required premedical coursework by this date. Courses must be completed with a grade of C- or higher and meet the standards as outlined on our website.
- Complete any other conditions on your admission.
- Ensure final transcripts have been received by OSUCOM. Transcripts can be submitted to OSUCOM between April 30 and July 1.
- Transcripts must be sent to OSUCOM even though they were previously sent to AMCAS as part of your primary application.
- Transcripts can be submitted electronically using Parchment or another verified third party transcript service to medicine@osu.edu or OSU – All Campuses.
- Your transcript must include the degree awarded and conferral date to meet our requirements. Please verify with your university registrar that these items are included prior to sending.
- Any transcripts sent prior to April 30 will not be accepted by OSUCOM.
- OSUCOM is not responsible for reimbursement of transcripts that are incomplete or sent outside of the stated window.
- Non-compliance with any part of these expectations (timelines, withdrawal, or coursework) will result in losing your seat in the class. This is especially relevant for “Commit to Enroll” and will lead to the forfeiture of your seat in the incoming class.
For candidates accepted after April 30
After April 30th, there may be shifts in the cohort of newly accepted students that may allow us to admit additional candidates from the waitlist. If acceptance is offered to a waitlisted candidate by OSUCOM, the candidate will be notified via phone and email. Once a waitlisted candidate is notified of their acceptance after April 30th, they will be granted five business days to respond to the offer of admission in the CYMST by selecting either “Plan to Enroll” or “Commit to Enroll”. Candidates accepted after April 30th will be held to the same requirements and expectations listed under the July 1st deadline.

Monitoring and communication
OSUCOM will monitor the AMCAS and CYMST systems. We may contact you if there are conflicts with your status. Failure to respond may result in the rescinding of your acceptance offer.
We will not offer seats to any of our waitlist candidates if they have begun a prematriculation program, attended orientation, enrolled in classes at another medical school, or have selected "Commit to Enroll” at another medical school.
If you don't follow the steps outlined above, you will:
- Lose your offer of admission
- Be reported to AAMC for professionalism concerns
- Be ineligible for future admission cycles
Special circumstances
If you have personal or financial issues that affect your ability to meet these deadlines, contact the Office of Admissions at medicine@osu.edu or 614-292-7137. We’ll consider your request, but exceptions are not guaranteed.
By accepting an offer from OSUCOM you agree to meet these expectations.
Withdrawal process
Accepted students are expected to notify the College of Medicine via email anytime during the application process of their decision to register in another medical school at medicine@osu.edu, or logging into Vitals and submitting a withdrawal.
