Program overview
This one-year fellowship provides advanced, comprehensive training in all aspects of facial plastic surgery, including:
- Rhinoplasty (functional, cosmetic, and revision)
- Aging Face Surgery (facelift, necklift, browlift, blepharoplasty, lip lift, fat transfer)
- Skin Cancer Reconstruction (grafts, local flaps, limited regional/free tissue transfer)
- Facial Paralysis Management (nerve transfers, free gracilis muscle transfer, synkinesis management)
- Facial Trauma
- Hair Restoration
- Minimally Invasive Techniques (neuromodulators, fillers, chemical peels, laser treatments, and more)
You’ll work alongside four dedicated facial plastic and reconstructive surgeons, Dr. Leslie Kim, Dr. Sumit Bapna, Dr. Jeffrey Steitz and Dr. Kevin Quinn, participating in 2,000–2,500 surgical cases annually. Collaboration with Mohs and oculoplastic surgeons further enriches your clinical exposure.
- Licensing: State Medical Board of Ohio full, unrestricted medical license required.
- Appointment level: Attending (Clinical Instructor), Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery.
- Operating privileges: The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (including Ambulatory Surgery Centers) and Central Ohio Surgical Institute.
- Call responsibilities: Attending-level otolaryngology–head and neck surgery and facial trauma call (adults only), 1–3 days per month.
- Diverse clinical experience: Most training occurs in ambulatory care settings, with select hospital-based cases. Fellows staff their own facial plastic surgery clinic every other week, building their own patient base from day one.
- Academic and private practice exposure: Prepare for a variety of career paths with experience in both academic and private practice environments.
- Mentorship and collaboration: Learn from a team of experienced surgeons and collaborate with specialists across disciplines.
- Serve as a clinical instructor/attending physician, supervising residents in both clinical and didactic settings.
- Participate in lectures, grand rounds, journal clubs, and cadaver dissection courses.
- Engage in research with access to monthly meetings, a structured curriculum, and biostatistical support. Fellows complete a research project suitable for publication or national presentation.
