DOS Annual Research Conference
The conference brings together students, residents, fellows, faculty and guests to share and discuss results of research relevant to surgery. It’s also an opportunity for all students training with faculty in the Ohio State Department of Surgery to develop their scientific communication and critical thinking skills.
Each year, the department hosts the Zollinger Visiting Professor, a prominent leader in surgery, to spend a day and a half meeting with residents and faculty and serving on a panel of judges for the research. Presenters later receive written feedback about their presentations including suggestions to enhance the content, delivery or visual presentation of their work.James D. King MD, PhD Grant Fund in Surgical Research
This competitive grant is awarded to the surgery resident who gives the best presentation outlining the rationale and overview of their planned research project at the beginning of their research training experience. This competition provides the opportunity for our trainees to introduce their research projects and plans to the Ohio State Department of Surgery leadership, faculty and current residents engaged in research. Trainees receive critiques and helpful suggestions in advance of beginning their project that allow for further refinement of the focus or design of the project.
College of Medicine Annual Trainee Research Day
Trainee Research Day features posters from hundreds of trainees, a trainee speaker series and a keynote address by a world-renowned researcher in the field of biomedical sciences. Faculty members judge poster presentations throughout the day, and travel awards are given to the highest-scoring trainees.
