Metin Gurcan, PhD interviewed by 10TV for James series "Towards a Cancer-Free World"

This broadcast will be airing this Thursday, December 10, 2015 during the noon, 5p and 6p broadcasts the 10TV/James series, “Toward a Cancer-Free World.”

This segment of "Toward a Cancer-Free World"  is focused on our project to test PolyDots and how they can potentially deliever drugs to tumor cells directly in the brain. PolyDots are nanoparticles  which in this project, are explored  as drug delivery systems. Our experiments with  glioma cells and zebrafish suggest that nanoparticles can be an effective drug delivery platform  and can pass blood-brain-barrier. They can be loaded with different drugs with different release times as well as markers that show up on imaging.

This project has been developed and implemented by a multi-disciplinary team of researchers at OSU. This work was supported by a Pelotonia Award. The team members include:

Metin Gurcan, PhD - Associate Professor, Department of Biomedical Informatics
Vinay Puduvalli, MD - Professor, Neurology
Jose Otero, MD, PhD - Assistant Professor, Department of Pathology and Department of Neuroscience
Jessica Winter, PhD - Professor, College of Engineering, Department of Biomedical Engineering
J/ Bradley Elder, MD, PhD - Associate Professor, Department of Neurological Surgery

Dr. Gurcan's lab Clinical Image Analysis lab has been developing image analysis solutions for radiology, pathology and dermatology for the last 20 years. Further information about this project as well as other projects can be found at the lab web page ( http://www.bmi.osu.edu/cialab)
