About the program

This one-year Cardio-Oncology Fellowship at The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center provides advanced training in the cardiovascular care of cancer patients and survivors. In partnership with the OSUCCC – James, a nationally recognized NCI-designated cancer center, this program offers a high-volume clinical experience across outpatient clinics, inpatient consults, and multidisciplinary oncology services.

Fellows receive individualized training tailored to their career goals with opportunities to focus on areas within Cardio-Oncology such as advanced imaging, heart failure, cardio-immunology, or preventive cardiology. Fellows with also have a chance to participate in amyloidosis clinic, and a weekly immune-related adverse event meeting hosted by the James Cancer Center. The program also offers strong clinical and research mentorship including participation in NIH-, Industry- and AHA-funded studies, recurring research meetings, and options to participate in and/or complete a scholarly project for presentation and publication.

There are two tracks offered for this fellowship:

  • 12 month Cardio-Oncology and Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging Fellowship - Combines 50% of the year focused on Cardio-Oncology and the other 50% focused on advanced cardiovascular imaging (cardiac MRI, cardiac CT), resulting in level III designation in Cardio-Oncology and level II in at least one imaging modality. (Requires completion of an ACGME-accredited Cardiovascular Medicine Fellowship).
  • 12 month Cardio-Oncology and Research Fellowship - Combines 50%+ of the year focused on Cardio-Oncology, and the remainder of the time focused on Cardio-Oncology related research, resulting in level III designation in Cardio-Oncology. (Requires completion of a 3-year ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine residency).

Graduates will be equipped to lead or develop cardio-oncology programs, conduct clinical research, and become experts in the screening, prevention, and management of cancer therapy-related cardiotoxicity.

Eligibility Criteria

  • MD or DO
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent resident
  • Completion of a 3-year ACGME-accredited Cardiovascular Medicine Fellowship or Internal Medicine residency
  • One fellow will be accepted per year
