Our Mission
The Data Science and Engineering Core (DSEC) in College of Medicine Research Information Technology creates secure high-performance computing resources, constructs analysis-ready datasets and provides data visualization and dashboarding services. DSEC is also available to consult on artificial intelligence, machine learning and natural language processing.
Analytic computing environments
Enhance the performance, regulatory compliance, usability and reproducibility of research computing
Data visualization
Get dashboards, calculators and interfaces built around your data
Analytical services
Data wrangling, preparation, management, modeling, interactive reporting
Why consult the Data Science and Engineering Core (DSEC)?
Access to secondary data
DSEC provides data acquisition, licensing and contracting for a range of secondary data and oversees initiatives such as LifeScale.
Tailored tools and computing environments
DSEC advocates for researchers to provide access to virtual environments for machine learning. In addition to standing up open-source tools in those environments, DSEC builds custom visualization tools and dashboards for research projects.
Data Science and Engineering Core (DSEC) Services
RIT transforms data into meaningful knowledge by using cutting-edge tools and developing custom software. Building on platforms like RShiny and Tableau, RIT creates and hosts interactive dashboards. Researchers can use these dashboards to analyze large-scale data sets. Learn more about Data Visualization.
The Secondary Data Core (SDC) is a shared resource for The Ohio State University researchers that stores and synthesizes large-scale clinical datasets on an analytic platform. Through the SDC, researchers can use data such as Truven Marketscan, the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Claims, or they can request to add their own data to the SDC. Learn more about the Secondary Data Core (SDC).
i2b2 is a self-service resource allowing researchers to conduct feasibility studies using a coded-limited dataset sourced from the EHR. Querying i2b2 provides aggregate data without submitting the request to an Honest Broker. Learn more about i2b2.
