Portal for Research
A scalable research communication platform
The Research Informatics Software Engineering core (RISE) in College of Medicine Research Information Technology develops customized software for researchers using best practices in design and software development of enterprise software. They develop software in various modalities such as mobile apps and web apps to facilitate research.
Novel solutions that go beyond off-the-shelf software
Collaborations with other groups to increase and amplify services
Continuous upgrades and support past the initial product launch
Leveraging modular components to provide quicker turnarounds on future work
RISE develops custom software for researchers. After meeting with researchers to learn more about their needs and learn where off-the-shelf solutions fall short, RISE shepherds a project through the development life cycle. Even though development proceeds in phases, moving from a minimum viable product to something more complex, RISE maintains a long-term vision for the software as an enterprise product, adhering to best practices for security and sustainability.
A researcher's relationship with RISE doesn't end when their software has been developed. RISE provides ongoing support and maintenance for the applications it develops by fixing bugs and migrating and upgrading underlying structures.
When research needs cannot be satisfied by off-the-shelf packaged software, RIT develops end-to-end custom software solutions. We offer a broad spectrum of software applications built with consideration of security, robustness, sustainability and scalability. Learn more about Research Software Development.

Using the SCARLET standard registry framework, RIT collaborates with the The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Information Warehouse to collect disease-specific data from the EHR into a self-service querying interface for researchers. SCARLET's querying interface can also be used to query other data collected during research. Learn more about SCARLET (Self-Service Querying and Research Registries).
Providing consultation to hands-on development, RIT leverages our expertise to connect your digital application to critical data via FHIR and other Epic sanctioned methods. Learn more about Clinical Data Integration in Software.
