About the Program
This non-ACGME-accredited advanced fellowship in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) under the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition offers unique training in a high-volume, top-rated tertiary referral center. It provides clinical, endoscopic and research training specific to the inflammatory bowel disease process, as well as the opportunity to work on cutting-edge clinical trials. Fellows will receive broad exposure in the IBD field, from basic IBD management to complex and difficult to manage care. Fellows will have direct contact with a large group of full-time faculty who will provide mentorship and guidance throughout the program.
Program overview
During this one-year program, the fellow will spend time in both the clinical inpatient service and outpatient IBD care settings, and will also have weekly endoscopy time. The fellow will have devoted research time as well to assist with existing projects and clinical trials and will have the opportunity to pursue personal research interests in IBD.
The fellow will work closely with our medical and surgical IBD experts to provide multidisciplinary care to our IBD patients. The program will help the fellow develop expertise in long-term IBD management across a broad spectrum of patients, including those who come from our pediatric-to-adult IBD transition of care program.
Our fellows will also have the opportunity to help plan and participate in a variety of meetings, grand rounds and conferences.

Based on qualifications and reference letters, selected candidates are invited for an interview. Candidates are notified by email when they are invited for an interview. Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis. During interview sessions, the candidate meets with IBD and gastroenterology faculty, including the program director and the division director.
Applicants are evaluated on multiple factors, some of which include academic credentials, aptitude, preparedness, motivation and communication skills.

- MD or DO
- US citizenship, permanent resident or J1 Visa status
- Completion of three years of U.S. postgraduate residency training in an ACGME-accredited program
- Completion of three years of a gastroenterology fellowship in an ACGME-accredited program by the time of entry into the fellowship program
- Licensed to practice medicine in the state of Ohio (may be pending at time of application, but required before starting the fellowship)
Candidate Selection
Applications are reviewed after all supporting documents have been received. Applicants must have completed an ACGME-approved residency program in internal medicine and a gastroenterology fellowship prior to beginning the IBD fellowship program. Completed applications are reviewed by the IBD Fellowship Education Committee.Meet our program director
