Train board-certified physicians equipped with the knowledge, skills and experience to lead diverse teams of providers, educate others and improve the care of critically ill patients.
In addition to teaching during rounds, the curriculum includes multiple scheduled weekly sessions including the following:
- Formal weekly fellow didactic lecture following ABA Critical Care Content Outline
- Weekly Critical Care Ultrasound Lecture or Scanning Sessions - NBE Critical Care Echocardiography curriculum
- Weekly Multidisciplinary Critical Care conference, Grand Rounds or faculty-lead journal club
- Rotation specific lectures, journal club and morbidity & mortality conferences
- Basic Critical Care topics lecture (targeted towards new fellows, residents & students)
- Vital Talk Course on difficult conversations with patients and families VitalTalk. This is a full day interactive course taught by the palliative medicine faculty.
- Simulation sessions a the cutting edge OSU Clinical Skills and Assessment Center Clinical Skills Center | Ohio State College. Topics cover management of ECMO, resuscitation, simulated procedures and echocardiography.

- MCCKAP Exam through the Society of Critical Care Medicine
- American Board of Anesthesiology In-Training Examination
- Optional subscription to board preparation courses such as The Pass Machine
- Anesthesiology oral board practice cessions
Early in the year, fellows are matched up with faculty who share areas of interest. This promotes involvement in research, quality improvement initiatives, journal publications, and conference presentations. Fellows are expected to submit an article for publication or presentation at a conference such as the Society of Critical Care Anesthesiologists, Society of Critical Care Medicine or the American Society of Anesthesiologists. Fellows are also expected to present at a departmental Grand Rounds on a topic of their choosing and participate in a Quality Improvement project.
