How to Apply
To apply for a residency position, all applicants must use the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). All applications submitted by November 1 are reviewed wholistically.
Application must include:
- Personal statement
- Curriculum vitae
- Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE) letter from your medical institution
- Medical School Transcript
- One (1) Emergency Medicine Standardized Letter of Evaluation (SLOE) from a faculty group familiar with your clinical performance during an EM rotation is highly preferred. The SLOE may also be from an EM physician who is familiar with your performance.
- USMLE and/or COMLEX scores
Application deadline (for ERAS applicants): December 15
- Must have a valid ECFMG certificate before start of residency
- Must be eligible for J-1 visa, if applicable. (Important note: The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center accepts J-1 visas only)
Beginning in mid-fall, ERAS applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Selected applicants will be contacted by the program coordinator with details and instructions for setting up an interview date and we’ll continue to send offers to interview throughout the fall/winter. The timing of an invitation is not indicative of your strength as an application, but simply a reflection of the time intensive process it take to thoroughly review your materials as we consider the entirety of your application in the decision-making process.
All interviews will be conducted virtually. Optional in-person second look invitations will be sent to all interviewed candidates once virtual interviews have been completed. All in-person events will be completely optional and will take place once the program has entered and certified our rank order list. Attendance or non-attendance at any in-person event will have no bearing on applicant placement within the program’s rank list. We never offer more invitations than we have open spots to interview, so rest assured you will have a spot when you receive an invitation. Thalamus is the interview scheduler that we’ll use this year. Interviews are held on Tuesdays and will take place November through December. Candidates selected for an interview will be able to select their interview date/time based on the available dates set forth by the program. Candidates will also receive an opportunity to attend a virtual resident social the evening before their interview.
We look forward to reviewing your materials and we wish each of you the best of luck this season!

If the credentialing screening drug test is positive for any of the tested substances without a physician's prescription for that substance, and notification of such prior to testing, the resident's/fellow's contract and any commitment to accept the trainee will immediately be void until he/she successfully completes a substance use assessment and/or treatment at an Ohio State Medical Board approved treatment site.
