The Combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics of the Internal Medicine Residency program offers some great benefits. Those selected for the residency program receive the following salary and benefits:

Salary Information

The following is a breakdown of resident salaries for 2023-2024:

  • PGY1 - $66,439
  • PGY2 - $68,439
  • PGY3 - $70,628
  • PGY4 - $73,049

Paid Relocation - A "matched student" who moves to Columbus, Ohio from 50 miles or more to begin residency will receive up to $750 to assist with relocation expenses (minus applicable income tax).
Paid Time Off - Three weeks of vacation each academic year. PGY2-4 receive 7 conference days yearly and PGY3 & 4 residents are allowed 7 fellowship/job interview days.
Holiday Break - Additional time off for major holidays based on departmental holiday schedules
Paid Medical Leave - 15 days per year (unused days will accrue) for personal/family illness and bereavement. Maternity/Paternity leave is also offered.
Paid Parking Fees - At Nationwide Children's Hospital and The Ohio State University. All residents receive an Ohio State faculty parking pass, allowing access to parking garages adjacent to the Medical Center. 
Meals and Beverages - Meal allowances are provided for each block. 

Academic Fund

For use to cover costs associated with professional meetings, medical books, journals, software and professional memberships.

  • PGY1: $100
  • PGY2: $550
  • PGY3-4: $650

Please note that following life support certifications and renewals are sponsored and covered by the program: AAP's Neonatal Resuscitation Course, Basic Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Trauma Course. The Ohio State GME office provides an additional $500 stipend each academic year to be used in conjunction with the above program-provided academic funds to enhance resident learning experience.

Lab Coats and Scrubs

Residents are provided lab coats, fleece jackets and scrubs for both The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

Sports Facilities

Ohio State two of the best recreation facilities in the country, the Recreation and Physical Activity Center (RPAC) and a West Campus satellite facility, the Adventure Recreation Center (ARC).  Residents at Nationwide Children's Hospital also have access to a workout facility in the Resident Center, or can join the employee gym.
