It is the responsibility of the Admissions Committee to select a class of students representing a wide variety of lived experiences who demonstrate the intelligence, integrity, personal and emotional characteristics necessary for them to become effective physicians. To do so, they are charged to establish and implement the criteria and procedures that shall govern the selection of students for entry into the MD degree program of the College of Medicine, within university regulations. The Admissions Committee Member will serve in two distinct tasks throughout the admissions cycle: as an interviewer and deliberator. There are also opportunities for faculty admission committee members to participate in decision meetings and scholarship meetings throughout the admission cycle. In addition, with the assistance of the Associate Dean for Admissions, Admissions Committee members are also responsible for:
- Developing and implementing a holistic, confidential selection process
- Developing and educating committee members on effective and legal interview and deliberation techniques
- Maintains individual records of candidates
- Annually reviews class admission statistics and prepares a report for College of Medicine Leadership
The roles of an Admissions Committee member and a Faculty Screener on the Screening sub-committee are separate and distinct roles. Faculty Screeners serve in a supporting role to the Admissions Committee by reviewing completed applications and recommending a screener disposition to determine whether applicants should be considered for an interview. Faculty members should not serve as both an Admissions Committee member and a Faculty Screener within the same admissions cycle.

This is the overarching curriculum committee that defines the college's institutional objectives for curricular content and ensures that the curriculum provides a general professional education. It oversees the system for the evaluation of student achievement of knowledge, skills, behaviors, and attitudes throughout medical school which includes formative and summative evaluation of student achievement in each course and clerkship. The ECC reviews and revises the academic programs to achieve a logical sequencing of the various segments of the curriculum, content that is coordinated and integrated within and across the academic periods of study (horizontal and vertical integration), and methods of pedagogy and student evaluation that are appropriate for the achievement of the college’s institutional objectives.
