Welcome

The Medical Scientist Training Program provides an exciting opportunity for students committed to academic careers as physician-scientists. The Ohio State University offers the opportunity to train with internationally recognized scientists at an exceptional medical center. There is an increasing national focus on translational and clinical research related to human health and disease - a natural leadership role for the physician-scientist. The MSTP works very closely with our Core PhD Programs - Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program, Neuroscience Graduate Studies Program, and the Biomedical Engineering Graduate Program to ensure a successful training experience. We also offer the option of pursuing a PhD in one of our many affiliate PhD programs. A current list of our graduate program partners can be found here. As a student in the Medical Scientist Training Program, you are embarking on a journey that may have a hand in shaping the future of science and medicine.

The OSU medical school realizes that this is a very long, demanding curriculum, and does not want financial considerations to be a distraction to the success of MSTP students. Therefore, the program provides a generous financial package for students accepted into the MSTP. This includes a complete tuition waiver for all years of study, including both medical and graduate school, and a generous annual stipend. Needless to say, admission is highly selective, and reserved for only highly talented students who are committed to an academic career as a physician-scientist with a heavy involvement in research. If you are such a person, we highly recommend that you consider applying for this program. Although it is very challenging, we can assure you that the opportunities for learning and studying with internationally recognized scientists will make the educational effort and your future career extremely rewarding.
