In 1961 senior resident, Frederick Kapetansky, MD, graduated from the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. He built a career in Columbus, OH, dedicating his professional life to the care of patients with glaucoma, a chronic eye disease that can lead to blindness. Dr. Kapetansky is known for being an ‘innovator’ and ‘early adopter’ for ocular surgeries, imaging, and therapeutics. Dr. Kapetansky represents best in class for compassionate care and commitment to preventing glaucoma-related blindness. For over 60 years he has built relationships with glaucoma patients. Dr. Kapetansky is known as an advocate for patients, which has been recognized for his ‘Best Doctors’ awards posted in the Columbus Monthly Magazine and our American Academy of Ophthalmology Senior Achievement Award. As a teacher, he received the resident teaching award chosen by the OSU ophthalmology residents. His storied career inspired him to create the Frederick M. Kapetansky, MD Career Development Professorship Fund which supports innovative eye care research for individuals beginning their careers.
