Training Activities
Because we emphasize participatory learning, residents can attend a remarkable number of collaborative conferences, seminars and events.
About 25% of our residents present their research, quality improvement or other scholarly projects at national meetings annually. Residents also serve as first-authors on publications in leading psychiatric journals.
Residents interact with experienced researchers, present initial concepts, gain early feedback on each stage of their research and are exposed to available university resources.
Held throughout the academic year, this forum is conducted by and for residents with faculty facilitation to support presentation of clinical cases, special topics and interviews.
Residents and faculty convene monthly to review and critique a timely article of psychiatric significance.
A culmination of quality improvement activities where residents present their individual projects.
At this spring event, residents summarize their past year’s publications or presentations from international, national or regional conferences.
Each month, internationally and nationally recognized psychiatrists, Ohio State faculty and PGY-4 residents (with faculty oversight) make presentations.
In collaboration with colleagues from other medical specialties and mental health disciplines, psychiatry faculty present clinical cases with a neurobehavioral emphasis.
Psychiatrists with psychotherapy experience facilitate this group week for PGY-3 and PGY-4 residents.
All residents and faculty meet once a month to discuss department and program issues.
Led by chief residents, the entire residency group meets weekly to discuss relevant issues during protected time.
Faculty and peer-selected residents discuss education policy and its impact on our curriculum.
This lecture series exposes house staff to nontraditional curricular topics mandated by ACGME. All residents must complete the “Sleep Deprivation” and “Impaired Physician” lectures within the first year of their training along with 10 additional modules by the end of their residency.
Residents may participate in both departmental and system-wide graduate medical education events, committees, and programs. This includes opportunities to serve on quality, advisory and education committees, as well as committees that span interests of the medical center, including ethics and information technology.
Residents are invited to be members of the American Psychiatric Association and Ohio Psychiatric Physicians Association. There are also a number of subspecialty organizations that residents may consider joining, with dues supported by the Department.
