Insurance Benefits

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center offers full medical, vision, dental, long-term disability and life insurance coverage. Professional liability insurance covers all patient-care activity occurring within the scope of the training program. Please feel free to review insurance benefit options.

Education Fund

The Ohio State University Department of Radiology supports our resident’s professional development with a $1500 education fund for pre-approved expenses. Examples of eligible expenses include support of licensure fees, travel expenses related to meetings and other supplemental education learning materials.

Other Benefits

In addition to the education fund, Ohio State Radiology Imaging Medical Physics residents are provided with the following resources at no cost (subject to taxation):

Travel and vacation benefits

The Department of Radiology provides three weeks of vacation. We advise residents to plan as far in advance as possible.

Residents are allowed five days of meeting attendance time per year, and more can be given if a trainee is delivering an oral presentation or electronic exhibit. Funding is available to trainees to help with meeting and other educational expenses during their program.

Sick and parental benefits

Parental leave

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center provides up to six weeks of paid parental leave. Residents should be aware that the amount of leave taken may affect their ability to meet the requirements of the applicable certifying board. Because the length of parental leave may impact the amount of time allowed away from a training program by a certifying board, the Program Director may utilize vacation time, sick leave, personal days or conference leave to accomplish completion of the training requirements within the standard training period.

Sick Leave

Our policy complies with the institutional policy for sick leave. Radiology residents are considered full-time and accrue paid sick leave at a rate of 10 hours per month for a total of 120 hours per year.

Wellness Days

Ohio State Radiology is committed to supporting resident and fellow physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and overall health and well-being while completing their training program. Research shows that “radiology residents report one of the highest burnout rates of all medical subspecialties, with up to 85% burnout rates reported” (Mendoza et. al, 2019). In recognition of this research, Ohio State Radiology has implemented “wellness days” for our residents, in support of their mental health and well-being. Trainees are able to take one wellness day per quarter, in addition to sick and leave time off, in support of promoting well-being.
