The ABR Alternate Pathway Program offers international medical graduates (IMGs) a unique opportunity to complete four years of radiology training in the United States and become eligible to sit for the American Board of Radiology (ABR) certification exams.
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, alternate pathway trainees receive comprehensive, hands-on training in a high-volume, academic environment. This program is ideal for IMGs seeking to advance their radiology careers through rigorous clinical experience and academic development.

Four-Year Training Pathway
Trainees complete four years of structured radiology training, fulfilling the ABR’s alternate pathway requirements.ABR Exam Eligibility
Upon successful completion of the program, trainees are eligible to sit for the ABR Core and Certifying Exams, a critical step toward board certification in diagnostic radiology.Integrated Academic Environment
Trainees participate in daily clinical activities, multidisciplinary conferences, and educational sessions alongside residents and fellows.ABR Core Exam Preparation
Alternate pathway trainees join third-year diagnostic radiology residents in comprehensive board review sessions to prepare for the ABR Core Exam, as well as participate in the ongoing ABR Oral Exam preparation conferences and mock oral exams.Pathway Flexibility

In addition to meeting the ABR pre-requisites and requirements on the ABR website, please submit the following after completing the OSUWMC Application for Alternate Pathway to Kristi Camp at Kristina.camp@osumc.edu:

- Medical school diploma and transcript
- Residency certificate of completion
- USMLE Official Transcript Scores (Steps 1, 2, 3 must be completed)
- 3 Letters of Recommendation

Please Note: All application materials must be successfully completed before your application is considered.
International Medical Graduates must have completed medical training outside the United States and Canada, including an MBBS with DNB and/or MD if trained in India. Applicants must also have at least one year of clinical training and have completed a diagnostic radiology residency outside the U.S. or Canada. They should be eligible to practice radiology independently or hold board certification in their country of training. Additionally, candidates must possess an Ohio medical license or Ohio training certificate and must not be participating in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) in the U.S. or Canada.
This program is designed as a 4-year pathway, with annual renewal based on clinical competency, performance, and professionalism. Applicants must meet Ohio State medical licensure requirements, and OSU sponsors eligible H-1B visas upon completion of all USMLE exams. Admission is highly competitive and based on a thorough review of application materials and virtual interviews.
