Highlights from the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, Harding Hospital and the STAR Center of Excellence
Dear friends,
We’re preparing for spring and looking forward to Mental Health Month in May when we’ll be offering a multitude of educational opportunities. Our annual Harding Hospital Mental Health Fair will be held virtually during the week of May 3 – 7. In April, we will send more information on how you can participate.
Our Purpose
This quarterly newsletter focuses on the inspiring work that takes place every day at our very own Harding Hospital. Ohio State Harding Hospital is the regional market leader in providing behavioral health services to adults in central Ohio, and we have exciting plans for continued growth and innovation in all aspects of our care.
Our People
We believe the key to our success is our outstanding faculty and staff, who are the most qualified and best trained behavioral health professionals in the region. In addition to the individuals working on the inpatient units, we also have team members offering many other services on campus. Our Ambulatory team has sites at Outpatient Care Upper Arlington and on Olentangy River Road. Plans are underway to have outpatient clinicians working in New Albany, Powell and Dublin as well.
Our Community
Ohio State Harding Hospital offers a full continuum of care for patients, ranging from emergency psychiatric services, inpatient, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient and outpatient services. We’d like to spotlight our faculty and staff working in three areas that showcase our innovative approach:
Behavioral Health Immediate Care

Led by Matt Onorato, LISW, and Daniel Lee, MD, this program provides support for individuals recently discharged from inpatient care. Staff members initiate routine phone calls to let patients know that they’re available to monitor medication side effects and provide counseling as needed.
Inpatient Multidisciplinary Care
Pictured left to right: Matt Onorato, LISW; Katherine Brownlowe, MD; Tammy Moore, PhD, RN
Led by Matt Onorato, LISW, in collaboration with Katherine Brownlowe, MD, and Tammy Moore, PhD, RN, this approach to care treats mental disorders attributed to diseases of the nervous system and actively partners with other specialists within the Neurological Institute.
Interventional Psychiatry
Kevin Reeves, MD
Led by Kevin Reeves, MD, the program continues to expand access to electroconvulsive therapy and transcranial magnetic stimulation. We’ve also had great success with and see high interest in our esketamine and ketamine clinic.
Our Path Forward
Our focus continues to be on providing our patients with the most up-to-date, evidence-based patient care by highly trained faculty and staff. Columbus is the fastest growing city in the Midwest, and we’re expanding our services to meet the growing demand. Together with our Harding Hospital colleagues, we remain fully committed to operating the best psychiatric hospital in the region.
