Akron General Medical Center's Society of Distinguished Physicians will honor Michael A. Oddi, MD at the Society's 36 Fellowship Dinner.
Dr. Oddi has been Medical Director of Care Management and Clinical Documentation at Akron General Medical Center (AGMC) since 2012, when he retired from cardiothoracic and vascular surgery after practicing for 29 years. He is well respected and well recognized by his colleagues throughout Akron General. He is also the Medical Director of the Patient Blood Management Program and an instructor in Ethics in Surgery for the Department of Surgery. He has served Akron General in many capacities over his 32 years here, including Vice Chief of Staff from 1992-1993 then Chief of Staff from 1993-1994, and is on several committees throughout AGMC.
He received the Department of Surgery’s Teacher of the Year Award three times. He is a graduate of the Tony Gorant Community Leadership Institute and is a Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt. He was an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at NEOMED from 1986-2014. In 2009, Dr. Oddi retired as a colonel in the U.S. Army after 41 years of service and with numerous military decorations and awards over his career. He served two tours of duty in Iraq in 2004 and 2008.
Dr. Oddi received his medical degree from The Ohio State University and completed his surgical internship and general surgery residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC, and cardiothoracic surgery residency at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX.
