The Ohio State University medical alumni gathered to celebrate the 62nd Annual Medical Alumni Reunion during Homecoming Weekend, October 9-11. All alumni were welcome to attend, and 14 milestone-year classes were featured, from the veteran class of 1945, celebrating their 70-year reunion; to the class of 2010, celebrating their first reunion of just five years. Regardless of their anniversary year, alumni enjoyed a full weekend of activities.
The class of 1965 celebrated 50 years with Lunch hosted by Dr. E. Christopher Ellison, Interim Dean of the OSU College of Medicine and Dr. Mary Pat Borgess, President of the Medical Alumni Society. Classmates were presented with medallions and memory books to recognize their post-graduation accomplishments.
In addition, Back to the Future of Medical Education gave returning alumni the chance to experience what it’s like to become a student again, through an interactive journey from admissions to match day.
Tours were offered throughout the day to connect alumni with campus and help them remember the College’s growth over time. The Medical Heritage Center Tour offered alums a glimpse into the past, highlight medical artifacts and books. Alumni were amazed by the new James Cancer Hospital tour, getting a sneak peak of one of the most innovative cancer hospitals in the world. A campus bus tour given by a current medical student, provided alums with the opportunity to see the changes to campus since their last visit to Ohio State. For many alums, it had been decades since they last visited.
Nearly 230 alumni and guests gathered Friday evening for the Reunion and Awards Celebration at COSI Downtown.
Students and alumni gathered for the Celebration of Alumni and Student Diversity event, where Annette Chavez MD ’85 spoke about Medicine on the Front Lines, sharing her perspective on the privilege of being a doctor. Shannon Fayson, Med 2 student provided a brief reflection about her journey from MD Camp to the MEDPATH program to being a Med Student.
