'85 Kathryn Jean Bolton, MD (1959-2015)

Kathryn J. Bolton, MD of Modesto died December 27th after a three year struggle with ovarian cancer. "Dr. Kate" was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and grew up in the Midwest. She was a graduate of the University of Dayton and Ohio State University Medical School, and did a pediatric residency in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Commissioned as a medical missionary by the Roman Catholic archdiocese of Los Angeles, Kate worked for over two years in Papua New Guinea as one of only four physicians at a rural hospital serving thousands of underprivileged patients. She then returned to the U.S., where she moved to Modesto, married, and began a 20 year career with Valley Oak Pediatric Associates.
After her marriage, Kate made shorter trips to mission sites in Ghana, Cameroon, Guatemala, the Philippines and Uganda. She also volunteered at a weekend charity medical clinic in San Blas, Sinaloa Mexico traveling by small airplane - and became a private pilot.
Kate is survived by her husband John Ruley of Modesto, her parents Barrett and Mary-Lou Bolton of Dayton Ohio, five brothers, four sisters, and a large number of nieces,  nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins
