Dr. Mitchell Henry will step down as director of the Division of Transplantation Surgery on March 1 at the Ohio State University. He will continue to serve on faculty as professor of Surgery and senior transplant surgeon.
Through his dedicated service and leadership as director, Dr. Henry grew the division into a national and international transplant leader. He also presided over a highly productive research effort supported by both private and public funding. Dr. Henry is widely published in the field of transplantation and vascular access. He has authored 10 books, served as editor for an additional 10 books, authored seven book chapters and published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles.
His service to professional societies includes past president of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons and counselor to the board of directors of the United Network for Organ Sharing. Dr. Henry has been an exceptional mentor and adviser to many surgery trainees.
Dr. Henry completed his internship, general surgery residency and transplant surgery fellowship at Ohio State. In 1985, he was appointed assistant professor of Surgery, in 1991 promoted to associate professor of Surgery and in 1998 promoted to professor of Surgery. In 2005, Dr. Henry was appointed director of the Division of Transplantation Surgery and deputy director of the Comprehensive Transplant Center. Additionally, Dr. Henry is a professor of Veterinary Clinical Services at Ohio State.
