The Ohio State University medical alumni gathered to celebrate the 63rd Annual Medical Alumni Reunion during Homecoming Weekend, September 30- October 1. All alumni were welcome to attend, and 12 milestone-year classes were featured, from the veteran class of 1951, celebrating their 65-year reunion; to the class of 2011, celebrating their first reunion of just five years. Regardless of their anniversary year, alumni enjoyed a beautiful weekend back on campus.
Friday morning, alumni were invited to attend WEXMED LIVE
, a new event hosted by the Wexner Medical Center – showcasing talks from lead administrators and researchers about the new buildings and research happening around the medical center. One of the Wex Talks featured Sameek Roychowdhury, MD ('06) who spoke about his teams research identifying and improving therapy for patients wiht advanced cancer using genomics.
The class of 1966 celebrated their 50 year reunion with lunch
hosted by Dr. Kent, Dean of the OSU College of Medicine and Dr. Mary Pat Borgess, President of the Medical Alumni Society. Classmates were presented with medallions and memory books to recognize their post-graduation accomplishments and lots of fun memories were shared about their time as medical students.
The Medical Heritage Center Open House offered alums a glimpse into the past, highlighting medical artifacts, books, and photographs of the College of Medicine over the years.
To cap off the day, Nearly 200 alumni and guests gathered Friday evening for the first ever College of Medicine Celebration – featuring a presentation
from Dr. Capers about the College of Medicine successes throughout the years followed by an All-Class Social where alumni mingled with each other and current students. Live music was provided by current students in the College of Medicine Orchestra.
To cap off an excellent weekend, over 200 alumni and guests showed their Buckeye Spirit at the tailgate brunch outside of Meiling Hall just before heading to the Shoe for an Ohio State victory over Rutgers. This event is always a fun time for alumni, families, and students before heading into the game.
